Sit down, Scott

Benjamin likes to tell of us his day at school. More often than not, someone in his class had to be reminded “No push” or “No bite” always immediately followed by “Sit down”. We are talking about a room full of two year olds, whose basic purpose in life is to push every envelope available, often including biting and pushing. It’s a highly active and rambunctious group of twos, redundant as that may seem.

Over dinner, he told us the usual result of wildly exuberant twos, someone un-named had been “Naughty” to which Ian answered, “Who was naughty Benjamin? Was Scott McClellan naughty?” Indeed, he was. So I said, “Sit down, Scott” and we all laughed and laughed and laughed at our clever little joke. Benjamin too. He doesn’t miss out on a chance to laugh loudly, wise boy.

Scott has always been a Tool, and now even he admits it. No bite friends, Scott. Sit down!

Happy birthday, little one

It’s 10:11am and that means my Benjamin is exactly two years old. Life is so much better with you in it, little darling beastie.

Did it!

The title is Benjamin’s latest and favoritest phrase. And in fact, today he has proven he can essentially do anything. He can climb the curved bars at the big playground, go down the corkscrew slide headfirst on his back, meaning feet in the air=go very fast. He can also climb, quite artfully I must report, right out of his crib. He’s so agile, carefully swinging up one leg, perching on the rail, swinging legs down while leaning on his belly, finishing with a perfect landing that doesn’t bang his chin on the rail. This is not falling out of bed; this is the little Marine making his escape.

We are so screwed.

dreams of a farm

When Benjamin woke from his nap yesterday, he was in a lovely mood. I offered him a visit with his potty and while he sat there doing not much more than pondering his toes, I asked him if he had a good nap with dreams. He told me there was a farm, with a cow who said moo, and a cat, and a dog.

Last night quite late, over the baby monitor we heard Benjamin murmering “Agin, agin” (again) so hopefully more good dreams were upon him.

What incredible things are going on in the minds of the little ones.
